Vehicle Hire

The C1 Test Preparation Course is carried out using our Iveco Daily 52C13 Van which comply's with all the current regulations for the DSA C1 Test. Our C1 training vehicles have the advantage of being small and manoeuverable, with simple controls and gears, hydraulic ABS brakes, simple 6 speed gearbox and light power assisted steering.whilst meeting all DSA requirements with a MAM of 5200kg.

Customers come to us from many miles away because we can offer C1 training on an intensive one on one basis, with a high pass rate, that many of our competitors choose to carry out over a 3,4 or even 5 day period. Whilst it may make sense for a limited few individuals to learn on a full sized large truck they will find it more expensive and harder to pass the driving test than they would in our ambulance sized vehicle. By training with us we aim to get you through your C1 test quickly, easily and save you money. From an Employers view we aim to keep your operative off of work for as little time as possible and successfully train local council operatives in this fashion, and that's why people travel to us from a far, there are a number of local places to stay, just ask for details and we can tailor make a package for you.

Do I need to do another Test?

If you passed your car driving test on or after January 1st 1997 you will need to take a test to drive a vehicle with a maximum permitted weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes.

A goods vehicle licence up to a maximum of 7.5 tonnes requires the driver to hold an LGV C1 licence.

If you passed your driving test prior to January 1st 1997 you can drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes C1, tow a trailer with a car, B+E, and tow a small trailer only with a 7.5 tonne vehicle C1+E restriction 107, 8250kg.

Before you can book an LGV Category C1 Driving Course, you first need to obtain your LGV Provisional Licence and pass your LGV Theory Test, Multiple-Choice and Hazard Perception Test and also possibly the CPC Case Study, if required.

Below are the necessary steps to get you ready to learn to drive an LGV

Book an LGV Medical Examination
Download DVLA Medical Leaflet D4 & Medical Form D4 and order Form D2 from the DVLA.

Get a participating doctor to complete your Medical Form D4.  This does not necessarily have to be with your own doctor but you can expect to pay between £60 and £100.  Do not forget to take your D4 form with you.

Apply for Provisional Entitlement
Send your D4 form completed by a doctor, your D2 form completed by yourself and both parts of your existing licence to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BR, we recommend you send it recorded / registered delivery. Your licence with provisional entitlement will normally be returned within 2 to 4 weeks.

Begin Studying
Whilst you are waiting for your licence to return, begin studying for your LGV theory test & hazard perception test.  There are various study materials available to help you, such as, LGV Theory Test Book or CD Rom and also Hazard Perception DVD. Unfortunately these won't sit the test for you. You need to put in the study time to pass.

Ask us to Book your Theory Tests
Once your licence has been returned with your provisional entitlement on it, we can then book your LGV Theory Test and Hazard Perception Test. You can also book these yourself if you prefer. This is carried out at local test centres and made up of two tests; Test 1 is 100 multiple choice questions and Test 2 has 19 hazard clips.

Don't forget to book the LGV CPC if you require it. Click here to book.

Book your LGV Driving Course
When you have passed your LGV theory test you are ready to contact Select Driver Training Ltd and book your Category C1 Driving Course.
